Planetary Health

The well-being of human civilization is inextricably linked to the health of our planet and its ecosystems.

We are pleased to have joined the Planetary Health Alliance (PHA), a consortium of over 400 universities, non-governmental organizations, research institutes and government agencies from around the world committed to understanding and addressing global environmental change and its impacts on health.

Planetary Health: Health for people and planet in balance

Our health and the health of our planet are inextricably linked. A healthy environment is the foundation for the well-being of all people. Planetary Health is an innovative concept that focuses on this connection: It recognizes that our well-being can only be secured in the long term through a harmonious interaction of natural, social and economic systems.

The central message is clear:

Our health depends on a healthy planet. Clean air, access to clean water, nutrient-rich soils and intact biodiversity are essential for a healthy life. But planetary health goes beyond environmental issues. It also challenges the way we live, work and consume. Factors such as urban development, social justice and access to health services play an equally important role. This holistic perspective helps us understand that we must adapt our way of life to create a better future for people and nature.

Sustainable lifestyles

are the key: cities that encourage physical activity, less air pollution, better nutrition - all of this improves both our personal health and that of the planet. Initiatives such as urban gardens, the development of cycle paths or sustainable architecture help to make cities more livable and ecologically sound. It is about initiating changes in all areas in order to use the resources we have responsibly.

Nutrition

is another crucial factor. A healthy, predominantly plant-based diet, as recommended by the Planetary Health Diet, not only protects the environment but also supports personal health. Less food waste and reducing heavily processed products are simple but effective measures.

In summary

The concept of Planetary Health challenges us to think beyond the boundaries of individual health care. It reminds us that our future depends on how we treat our planet, but also how we treat each other. Whether through environmentally friendly choices, social innovations or collective action, everything we do affects our own well-being and that of future generations.
